Claudine Haloo

Claudine Haloo is a traditional potter from Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico, and a member of the well-known Haloo family of Zuni artists. She comes from a lineage deeply rooted in the arts, with relatives recognized for their work in carving, jewelry, and other traditional forms. She is the granddaughter of George Haloo Cheechee, a respected Zuni carver, and is part of a family network that includes noted Zuni artists such as Colvin Peina, Troy Sice, Gabe Sice, and Sylvin Noche. This strong artistic heritage reflects generations of shared cultural knowledge and creative skill.

Working within Zuni’s ancestral pottery traditions, Claudine hand-coils each vessel using native clay gathered from Zuni lands. Her pieces are shaped entirely by hand, stone-polished to a smooth finish, and decorated with natural mineral pigments before being traditionally outdoor-fired.

Her pottery often features classic Zuni imagery, including deer, heartline designs, birds, and flowing organic patterns that reflect Zuni spiritual beliefs and a deep connection to the natural world. The balance of form and design in her work demonstrates both technical discipline and a commitment to preserving authentic Zuni Pueblo ceramics.

Claudine Haloo’s pottery represents the continuation of a living artistic tradition—valued by collectors of Native American art for its craftsmanship, cultural integrity, and connection to one of Zuni Pueblo’s respected artistic families.
