Florence Naranjo (born c. 1921) was a highly respected potter from San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico. Growing up in a community globally celebrated for its ceramic innovations, she learned the rigorous, time-honored techniques of working with native clays from her family and elders.
Naranjo specialized in the classic black-on-black style made famous by Maria and Julian Martinez in the early 20th century. Dedicating her career to the traditional methods of gathering clay, hand-coiling, stone-polishing, and outdoor reduction firing, she created elegant, expertly crafted vessels. Her vintage pieces are cherished by collectors for their flawless finishes, precise matte painting, and faithful adherence to the distinctive aesthetic of San Ildefonso Pueblo.
