Jessie Garcia

Jessie Garcia (1910-1999) was a renowned potter from Acoma Pueblo, known for reviving traditional pottery techniques. She specialized in polychrome, Anasazi Revival black-on-white, and corrugated pottery, crafting items like ollas, bowls, and figures. As one of the “Four Matriarchs” of Acoma pottery, her work featured thin walls and distinctive vegetal paint. Garcia’s legacy includes influencing her daughters Anita Lowden and Stella Shutiva, and granddaughter Jackie Shutiva. Her contributions helped maintain and innovate within Acoma’s pottery tradition, earning her recognition as one of the most significant potters of her time.
