Judy and Lincoln Tafoya are a third-generation husband-and-wife team who create pottery in the style of Christina Naranjo. They are known for their expertly carved red and black jars and bowls, often featuring the traditional bear paw design from the Santa Clara Pueblo.
Judy Tafoya was born in Los Angeles, California, in January 1962, to Cecilia Naranjo and James Lee McLean. While the exact time of the family’s return to Santa Clara is unclear, Judy recalls learning the craft of pottery by observing and working alongside her mother and grandmother, the renowned Christina Naranjo. She was also inspired and supported by her older sister, Sharon Naranjo Garcia.
After marrying Lincoln Tafoya, Sharon took on the role of teaching him how to make pottery as well.
