Mida Tafoya

Mida Tafoya, born in 1931, is a celebrated potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, and a key figure in a family of renowned potters. Her mother, Christina Naranjo, grandmother, Sara Fina Tafoya, and aunt, Margaret Tafoya, all contributed to the family’s legacy in pottery. Mida began creating pottery in 1945, focusing on carved blackware jars, bowls, and wedding vases. Her work is known for its intricate designs and exceptional craftsmanship, honoring the rich traditions of Santa Clara Pueblo. Mida continues to produce pottery today, playing an important role in preserving and evolving this art form.
