Vickie Martinez

Vickie Martinez (Koe-Sawe, meaning “Buffalo Steps”) was born in 1967 at Santa Clara Pueblo. She learned the traditional art of pottery-making from her mother, Barbara Martinez, and her grandmother, Flora Naranjo. Vickie began creating pottery on her own in 1983.

In the late 1980s, Vickie married Joey Chavarria, which introduced her to working closely with Teresita Naranjo and Stella Chavarria. This collaboration helped elevate Vickie’s pottery-making to new artistic heights.
