Virginia Garcia (b. 1963) is a talented potter and a member of a renowned family of artisans. She is the sister of celebrated potters Tina and Greg Garcia, the daughter of the late Lydia Tafoya, and the granddaughter of the esteemed Severa Tafoya. Virginia is also an aunt to noted artist Jason Garcia, continuing a legacy of creative talent. Known for her mastery of traditional Santa Clara pottery, Virginia’s work was defined by her use of classic shapes and intricate designs. In the late 1990s, she developed a signature “plum” color, a rich, deep hue achieved through a unique firing technique that became a hallmark of her pieces. Virginia’s pottery is highly regarded for its craftsmanship and innovative approach, though she has since retired from the craft. Her contributions to the tradition of Native American pottery continue to inspire artists and collectors alike.
